- 89% Muslim so contraception not used as widely
- As birth rates fell, caused population growth to explode, exceeding the resources
- GDP/person and standard of living very low
- Many underemployed and don’t work full time.
- Wages are low, literacy is 72%
- Poor education - lack free education
- High IMR and death rate
- Struggle to feed
- Deforestation
- Overcrowding, pollution
- Area also susceptible to tropical storms and monsoons and so lots of funding on that
