13.22 Information Systems Flashcards
The purpose of information systems
Is to improve flight cabin and maintenance operations and provide services for passengers
Architecture
Based on a system of networked real time servers and routers combined with a central acquisition of parameters and secure digital communications
Information system
Collects centralises and complies all the data related to the flight on a single system and provides external communication data calculation and storage
Aircraft information system mainly improves the airlines operation by
Supplying electronic forms and documentation
Offering customised documents as per operator needs
Network server system make up
Common file server
Data processing
Mass storage
Interface capabilities
Connected to LAN
The NSS is based on high speed communication protocol and supplies
A server and router platform
Connections to human machin interface for various end users which are the flight crew, CC, maintenance & pax
Secured data communication with the aircraft systems in the avionics world through firewalls
An external data communication capability with airline operational control centres and with service providers
Human machine Interfaces
EFB
MAT
PMAT
Printers
Onboard maintenance terminal
LRUs
DVD CD drive
LCD
Also external PMAT available powered up manually
Powers up with the aircraft also have on off switches
PMAT
Allows plug in points outside of the flight deck
Bite tests
Data loading
Usually controlled by maintenance and classed as ground tools
Sometimes a maint switch is required on the flight deck

Flight operations domain
Communication and cabin domain
Avionics domain
Aircraft network server unit operations - these servers supply computing and memory resources to the hosted OIS applications, documentation and database
Aircraft router unit operations - these routers manage data transmission
Secure router interface unit - used to secure ACARs coming from ground stations
Secured communication interfaces - a firewall which supplies safe a duplex communication between AVX and OIS apps
Centralised data acquisition mode - supplies aircraft parameters and avx data to the NSS for recording and OIS needs
Open world diode - uses unidirectional data flow from the avx bay to the NSS domains only
