13. Skeletal Form And Function Flashcards
What are the two divisions of the skeleton?
Axial (skull, spinal column) and appendicular (limbs, girdle)
How do bones function in mineral storage?
Outer layers of bone contain high levels of calcium and phosphorus and other minerals
Describe the two types of bone
Compact - homogenous
Spongy - small needle-like, lots of open spaces
What are the three classes of levers?
Class 1 - fulcrum between form and resistance - ie nodding head, spine is fulcrum
Class 2 - resistance between fulcrum and force - ie push up, feet are fulcrum, resistance is body weight, force from hands
Class 3 - force between resistance and fulcrum - ie forearm lifting a ball, elbow is fulcrum, force from bicep, resistance in hand
