1.21 - Value of Uniqueness Flashcards
What factors can be used to measure hazard vulnerability?
Physical, environmental, economic, education, social/demographic
How can you predict the likelihood of an event?
- based on magnitude/frequency
- results in probability estimate
- then a solution is designed for better infrastructure
In what cases can a developed country be seen as vulnerable?
When there is a lot of economic damage and costs - economic loss
When can a developing country be vulnerable?
When there is a financial loss and there is not enough aid available
How is risk measured?
Based on the overall disadvantage - a combination of political, social and cultural factors
What does the World Risk Report State?
Urban governments face the biggest risk (65% urban by 2050)
What is the World Risk Index based on
Exposure, susceptibility, coping capacity and adaptive capacity
- Japan is 17th
- Haiti is 21st
What does a hazard profile do?
Compares all of the physical processes to help decision makers identify and rank hazards and decide how to allocate attention / resources
What factors go on a harard profile?
Magnitude, speed of onset, duration, areal extent, spatial predictability, frequency
