Olfactory
sensory- I - smell
Oculomotor
III - 3- Eyelid and eyeball movement.
motor- movement of eyeball, pupil and upper eyelid (all eye muscle except lateral rectus and superior oblique muscle)
Trochlear
IV- 4- Innervates superior oblique turns eye downward and laterally
motor- eye movement
Trigeminal
V- 5- Chewing; face and mouth touch and pain
motor- movement of muscle for mastication
sensory- tactile facial sensation
VI. Abducens
Turns eye laterally
motor- opens eye (ipsilateral lateral rectus)
Facial
VII- Controls most facial expressions; serections of tears and saliva.
motor- movement of facial muscle; Extrinsic and intrinsic ear muscle, stapedius muscle
sensory- taste (anterior 2/3 of tongue); controls most facial expressions
VIII. Acoustic (vestibulocochlear, auditory)
Hearing equilibrium sensation
sensory- hearing; equilibrium and orientation of head in space
IX. Glossopharyngeal
Taste senses carotid blood pressure.
motor- elevation of palate, movement of pharynx and larynx; contributes to swallowing by controlling the stylopharngeus musical
sensory- taste from posterior 1/3 of tongue and oral pharynx
X. Vagus
Senses aortic blood pressure slows heart rate stimulates digestive organs taste.
motor- muscle f soft palate, pharynx and larynx; base of tongue (palatoglossus muscle only)
sensory- sensation from pharynx and larynx; taste in the epiglottis and pharynx
XI. Spinal Accessory
Controls trapezius & sternocleidomastoid; controls swallowing movement.
motor- movement of head and shoulders; movement of palate, pharynx and larynx
XII. Hypoglossal
Controls tongue movement.
motor- all of the intrinsic muscle of the tongue; all of the extrinsic muscle of the tongue except for the palatoglossus
