12 - Hydraulic Hazards Flashcards
1
Q
The ability to explain or demonstrate the process for isolation and vent/dissipation of the hydraulic systems in the WTG.
A
- Pressure systems i.e. Hydraulic Power Unit (260Bar), risk of hydraulic injection in the situation of a leak. Isolation of supply to 400VAC Hydraulic pumps is found in AC cabinet (MDY50UC016). Isolations should be taken to prevent pressure returning to the system or to prevent the generation of pressure. Once isolations are in place the system to be worked on should be drained/vented and then tested at the point specified in the AWP to prove there is zero pressure. This will be done with a calibrated and approved measuring device that needs to be recorded within the MAN: Approved List of CHE Tools and Equipment.
2
Q
The ability to explain the type of stored hydraulic energy that can be found in the WTG.
A
Accumulators are a type of stored hydraulic energy within the WTG. – Must be relieved of pressure before work can be carried out. – AWP specific
3
Q
The ability to explain the additional PPE requirements we may wear when working on or nearby hydraulic systems.
A
When working on/near hydraulic systems, gloves, full coverage clothing and glasses must be worn in order to prevent injuries through chemical contact or hydraulic injection.
