Q

Are even psychological constructs assocations?

A

Yes!

Person + Trait = Impression
Category + Trait = Stereotype
Object + attribute = belief
Object + evaluation = attitude
Situation + behavior = norm
Situation + own behavior = habit
Me + Role = self-concept
Category + member = exempler

In sales, don’t want association to be something people have to think about. Want it to be automatic.

Q

What final point did Fazio make about Salience vs. Accessibility of alternatives?

A

Critical step in decision making is identifying alternatives.

Easy: Choose favorite, Salient, Attitude-decision correspondence high

But! When alternatives not specified, individual must generate them. What is generated will be function of exemplar accessibility. Strength of category-exemplar association.

To choose most preferred, it must be generated, and instead you generate the most popular

Q

Name the two Basic Information Processing Principles

A

Q

List the 3 basic motivational principles

A
  1. Striving for mastery (to organize our world, learn stereotypes/associations, so that we can max reward, decrease punishment)
  2. Seek connectedness (need to belong, ingroup, consequence of exclusion)
  3. Value me and mine (positive light, self-serving (defensive) processing, self-perceptions (identities) influence behavior).
