Unquestionable death criteria
Patients meeting the following criteria shall be considered DOS: (9)
- Unresponsive
- Apneic
- Pulseless
- In addition to the above, the patient shall meet AT LEAST ONE of the following:
- The patient has lividity (discoloration of dependent parts of the bod by gravitation of blood)
- The patient has clear signs of body decay or visible decomposition
- The patient has rigor mortis (rigidity)
- The patient has an open cranium with exposed brain matter
- The patient is decapitated or has severed trunk

Trauma death criteria
Blunt chest trauma or multi-system trauma patients meeting the following criteria shall be considered DOS: (3)
- Apneic
- Pulseless
- If cardiac rhythm is asystole or wide complex ventricular rhythm of 30 or less without a pulse, document time and call code.

Resuscutation efforts may be terminated ONLY when ALL of the following criteria exist: (4)
- Arrest was not witnessed
- No shocks provided prior to JFRD arrival
- Patient is 18 years old or greater
- Rhythm remains asystole after providing 20 minutes of full ACLS
Acutely hypothermic patients on cardiac arrest shall be treated and transported
