Blood draw on patients being transported
The following process shall be followed: (6)
- Initiate care as per the appropriate protocol
- DO NOT DELAY TRANSPORT OF AN UNSTABLE PATIENT TO PERFORM BLOOD DRAW
- Draw blood per instructions in blood draw kit
- All items except needle will be returned to the kit with Betadine prep pad being sealed in plastic bag provided
- The investigating officer will seal the blood collection kit, maintain a chain of custody and complete documentation
- In your report, record the date printed on the blood draw kit and the investigating officer’s name.
