Harpies (HAR pees): bird-like monsters with the head and bust of a woman. Seized wicked souls by snatching their food.
Hecate
Hecate (HEH kuh tee): goddess of crossroads and entryways; carries two torches
Hesiod
Hesiod (HE see uhd): Greek poet; contemporary of Homer
Hestia
Hestia (HEH stee uh): Greek goddess of the hearth / domestic activity
Ino
Ino (EYE no): daughter of Cadmus; queen of Thebes; raised her nephew Dionysus. Leapt into sea, with her infant son, [CTDS] to avoid crazed husband.
Ismene
Ismene (iss MEY nee): daughter of Oedipus; sister of Antigone; kidnapped by Creon [OAC]
Jocasta
Jocasta (joe KASS ta): mother of Oedipus; widow of Laius; wife of Oedipus [OLO]
Laius
Laius (LAY us): husband of Jocasta; father of Oedipus. He sent baby Oedipus to die on Mt Cithaeron (suh-THEE-run) [JOC]
Magaera
Magaera (muh JEER uh): one of the Furies; the jealous one
Megareus
Megareus (meg-gree-us): son of Creon; killed during the siege of Thebes by the Seven [CTS]
Melicertes
Melicertes (meh li SIR tess): Son of Ino (EYE no); they were transformed into sea deities when she jumped into the sea with him.
