1.1 HL Brain and Skin Flashcards
Thalamus
Receives and sends messages between brain and body like pain, temperature, e.t.c..
Cerebellum
Coordinates sequences of skeletal muscle contractions
Hypothalamus
Control of autonomic nervous system (heart rate, blood pressure)
Brainstem
Respiratory and cardiovascular control centers
Cerebrum
High level brain functions such as sensory, associtation, motor ( thinking, language, emotion)
Skin Function
- Regulation of body temperature
- protection and immunity
- sensation
- excretion
- synthesis of vitamin D.
Left and Right vertebral arteries
posterior supply to brain stem and back of brain
Brachiocephalic - Left and Right carotid arteries
to the middle and front of brain - External carotids supply to face and scalp and Internal supplies blood to the cerebrum
How does the brain obtain energy ?
Using glucose and oxygen, which passes rapidly from the blood to the brain cells.
Glucose and oxygen are used to make ATP inside the brain by the process of aerobic respiration.
Frontal Lobe
Aspects of association like reasoning, motivation, planning, emotions, problem solving
Parietal Lobe
somatic sensory - movement , orientation , navigation
Occipital Lobe
Visual and sensory
Temporal Lobe
auditory sensory - long term visual memory
Limbic Lobe (on the inside)
emotion , behavior , motivation
