autobiographical memory
utilizes the 2 primary types of declarative memory (semantic and episodic)
flashbulb memory
a clear, sustained, long term memory of an emotionally significant moment or event
maintainance rehearsal
the straight repeating of information to memorize it. also called rote rehearsal
elaborative rehersal
a way to memorize information more effectively and maintain it in your long-term memory. This method of memorization connects information you already know with new information.
priming
Priming the activation, often unconsciously, of particular associations in memory.
encoding specificity principle
Our memories are context-dependent, and are affected by the cues we have associated with that context.
state dependent memory
what we learn in one state may be more easily recalled when we are again in that same state.
retrieval cues
Emotions that accompany good or bad events become retrieval cues
mood congruent memory
the tendency to recall experiences that are consistent with one’s current good or bad mood.
