10.3 Approved Maintenence Organisations Flashcards
What aircraft’s must be maintained by a 145
Any aircraft used for commercial air transport, large aircraft (over 5700kg) and a twin engine heli
Who grants approvals for a 145
Approvals are granted by competent authority (NAA)
If organisation is outside of EU than EASA
What is an MOE and what is it
Maintenance organisation exposition
It details everything about the business and how all requirements will be met
What are the facility requirements for a 145
Appropriate for all work
Adequate protection from weather and contamination
Office accommodations
Storage facilities
What are the personnel requirements for a 145
Accountable manager (over all responsibilities)
Base/ line managers/ quality department - enduring compliance
Quality manager - responsible for monitoring quality system
Man hour plan
Be able to establish compliance - certificates, human factors etc
Qualified personal to carry out non destructive testing NDT
What does a man hour plan consist of
Take into account all activities
No more than 50% of sub contracted staff
How they will sufficiently do everything
Updated every 3 months
What does a line maintence need to get a 145
Sufficient b1 and b2 staff with cat A or support
What does base maintenance require for a 145
B1, B2, A for support and and Cat C so they can sign the aircraft off
What do certifying staff in a 145 have to comply with
Part 66
Can a 145 have no licenced staff
Yes, but they need adequate supervision and support by licensed
In the instance of an aircraft being stuck in a remote location what can the flight crew perform
Flight airworthiness directive as well as a non licensed engineer can be given one off authorisation to repair it
What do certifying staff need
Hold a part 66
Hold a type rating (not cat A)
Have sufficient experience
Be over 21
Company issues a personal authorisation code (pac)
What does a PAC - personal authorisation code do
Specifies exact limitations
Period of validity - license lasts 5 years
What do you need to retain authorisation
Have adequate understanding
Be involved in at least 6 months of maintenance within 2 years
Undergo sufficient training - every two years of HF (else PAC would be invalid)
What does the 145 have to do to maintain authorisation
Maintain records of what it’s authorised
Retain information of minimum 3 years after a person leaves
Allow individual to view info when leaving
What does the 145 have to do regarding equipment, tools and materials
Have necessary equipment
Tools specified by manufacture must be used unless specific permission given
Equipment must be tested, controlled and calibrated
What are the two stores in a 145 called
Boned and quarantined
What are the 3;sections regarding a components state
Satisfactory condition
Unserviceable
Unsalvageable
What do organisations have to take into account when looking at parts
Elegability (form 1)
Modification
Airworthiness directive
In satisfactory condition
Do organisation’s need a production plan
Yes
What procedures do organisation need to perform for maintence
Loss article checks (FOD)
Access panel checks
Tool checks
Damage assed and sorted
Error capture tests
What is CRS and when is it done
Certificate of release and is done after every maintenance action before an aircraft can be flown
How can you sign a CRS
Sign, stamp, pin
How long do you have to keep maintence record data
3 years from date it was realised
Who is the copy of the CRS given to
Aircraft ops
What is occurrence reporting
Any condition that has resulted in unsafe condition
Who is an occurnsce report sent to
Competent authority
Manufactures
Operator/owner
When should the occurrence report be sent to the authorities
No later than 72 hours
How often should audits be carried out
Every 12 months
How long should audit data be kept for
Retained for 2 years from end of any audit
What does an MOE contain and who too
Demonstrates how company with comply with 145
Submitted to NAA
any changes require re submitting
Normally comprises of 8 parts
What are the two types of changes to the MOE called
Direct - changes to management, aircraft, procedures etc
Indirect - spelling mistakes
What is a privilege within an organisation
Refers to what the organisation is allowed to do under its approval
What are some limitations in an organisation and what happens if they are limited
Staff, tools, equipment
NAA will suspend approval for that specific type of work if limited
When does the MOE expire
It does not. As long as it stays in compliment with 145
What is a findings
Where NAA completes audits and something is found not in compliance
What are the levels of findings
Level 1 - a significant non compliance with 145
Level 2- a non compliance with 145
What is form 1
The authorised release certificate which is issued with every component that is fitted to aircraft
What’s the 3 classifications of damage?
Repairable, non repairable and negligible
What’s the 3 classifications of damage?
Repairable, non repairable and negligible
What’s BVID stand for
Barely visible impact damage
What NDI’s are used for detecting moisture
Moisture detectors and thermography’s
How’s ultrasonic inspections work
By sending ultrasonic waves through the metal
What are the two types of adhesives
Film and foam
What are the two forms that sealants come in
One part and two part
One part can be used as it came from manufacturer
Two parts have to be kept separate and mixed together in order to cure
Where should a transparent plastic be marked
If it’s in a permanent frame then should be marked on the frame instead of window if not it should be printed on the inner face of the window
What’s used to mark thermosetting plastics
Vibroetching
What are the two types of transparent plastics
Monolithic and laminated
What’s the most common form of plastic
PTFE
What plastic is a common substitute for metals
PAI
What plastic can withstand large amounts of radiation
PEEK
What are the advantages of using plastics
Corrosion resistant
Chemical resistant
Impact resistant
Lightweight
Why isn’t foam used a core material on commercial aircraft
Because it’s weaker and heavier than honeycomb
What’s the main advantage of sandwich composites over laminate composites
Extremely strength to weight ratio
What’s the difference between laminate and sandwich composites
Sandwich is a core it’s two composite sheets bonded either side of it
Whereas laminates are 2 or more layers of bonded composites
What’s the most common thermoset
Epoxy resin
What are the two categories of matrix
Thermoset and thermoforming
What’s the different types of weave
Plain
Satin
Twill
Which of the 3 weaves has the best drape qualities
Satin
What’s unidirectional, bidirectional, matted and quasi isotopic lay up
Uni directional is in one direction
Bi directional is it two or more directions
Matted is chopped fibres
Quasi is layers of weave layered in 45 degrees alternation
What’s the warp, fill, bias and selvage edge
Warp is the length of the fabric
Fill is the length between left and right side of fabric (90 degrees from warp)
Bias is 45 degrees from warp
Selvage edge is the edge that prevents it from fraying
What’s ceramic used in
High-temps
Why isn’t boron used in aircraft
Because it’s expensive and dangerous
What composite is corrosive with aluminium
Carbon fibre
What composite require specialist cutting and drilling tools
Kevlar or aramid
What’s aramid used for
Belts for radial tires and aircraft panels
What’s used to repaid aramid
