What is a 1-variable Chi-square used for?
To assess whether observed frequencies in categories are different from what might be expected
i.e. Might expect frequencies to be equally distributed or Might expect some pattern in the frequencies

President Zdave from planet Ziltoidia 10 wishes to pick a picture for the new Ziltoidian equivalent of a first class stamp. He has 4 pictures taken and wants to test the hypothesis that some pictures are preferred over others (similar to the situation outlined in the V-lecture). He asks each of 100 Ziltoidians to vote for a preferred picture. The observed (O) frequency data are summarised below:
