1- R&O and Ops Engineering Flashcards

1
Q

Describe the Requirements and Optimization (R&O) section

A
  • Role: interface with customers, gather/validate requirements
  • Allow ops flight to focus on proactive performance, resource optimization, lifecycle requirements planning
  • 2 major lines of effort: Work management and activity management plan (AMP)

Q

Explain how condition assessments are conducted (3 methods)

A
  1. Distress survey - uses distress density, severity, and type rating; more accurate and time consuming
  2. Direct rating - color rating with +/-; less accurate, faster, AFCEC recommended
  3. Age based - BUILDER service life algorithm; uses build in service lives; not a replacement for a true assessment

Q

Describe the Difference between Direct and Indirect Time

A

Direct time: work attributable to a specific work task on an asset or facility - wrench time

Indirect time: offline tasks, admin overhead costs (ex PT, TDYs, admin stuff, cleaning etc)

Q

Describe the potential cost elements of a work task and the factors in determining labor cost

A
  • Equation: Deployable work hour balance = 8 hours * C-FTE * AR
  • Craftsmen full time equivalents
(C-FTE) = how many people do you have
  • Equation: Availability rate (AR) = percent of work time can you get on average after supervision, leave, time-off wards, training, sports days

Q

Describe the difference between direct and indirect material costs

A

Direct cost: material directly issued to the work/specific job

Indirect cost: material issued to the people/shop, general stuff (ex PPE, tools, screws, nails); issued my Material Control
