What are the three tasks of Epistemology?
Description
Critique
Advice
3 varieties of the discovery-justification (DJ) distinction
Temporally distinct processes
Process of discovery vs. Methods of justification
Discovery as empirical vs. Justification as logical
What is a construct?
a large class of phenomena (Slaney & Garcia, 2015)
What are three characteristics of a construct?
Conceptual (hypotheses, model)
Objective (real but non observable)
Focal (the subject of research)
How can a construct be valid?
it is tested through operationalisation
What are predictive and concurrent validity?
Criterion oriented validation
Investigator interested in criterion he tries to predict -> test + results trough correlation
If criterion obtained some time after the test = predictive validity
If test and criterion are predicted at the same time = concurrent
What is the Mathmatical model-theory (Tarski)?
A model is a sequence of objects which are semantically constructed in accordance with a formal language
What is constructivism?
Subject area, empirical, and numerical system stand in a reciprocal relation
What are the key steps in the task of scientific semantics?
(DPCDF)
Describe the language to be analyzed, specifying its basic signs.
Provide definition rules for introducing new signs into the language.
Characterize propositions in the language.
Distinguish axioms (principles) from the total set of propositions.
Formulate inference rules to derive additional propositions from axioms.
Adapt the research apparatus of modern logic to current methodology with caution
