03-03: Plexus and Nerves Flashcards
Plexus
Group of nerves that ennervate
Plexus formation
Anterior rami of spinal nerves join together
Posterior (Dorsal) Root - Type
Sensory
Anterior (Ventral) Root - Type
Motor
Cervical Plexus
C1 - C4 (muscles of neck)
Brachial Plexus
C5 - T1 (muscles of upper limb)
- Can be divided into different sections/components
Lumbosacral Plexus
L1 - S5 (lower limb)
- L1 - L4 Lumbar portion (thigh muscles)
- L5 - S3 Sacral portion (leg and foot muscles)
Brachial Plexus Network
Roots (5-2), Trunks (3-1), Divisions (6), Cords (3-4), Terminal Branches (5)
(BPlex) Roots
C5, C6, C7, C8, T1
Dorsal Scapular, Long thoracic
(BPlex) Trunks
Superior, Middle, Inferior
Suprascapular
(BPlex) Divisions
Anterior (3), Posterior (3)
Anterior divisions - anterior to subclavian artery
Posterior divisions - posterior to subclavian artery
(BPlex) Cords
Lateral, Posterior, Medial
Lateral Pectoral, Medial Pectoral, Subscapular, Thoracodorsal
(BPlex) Terminal Branches
Musculocutaneous, Axillary, Radial, Median, Ulnar (MARMU)
Effect of Shortened Pec Minor
Places pressure on neurovascular bundle
Brachial Plexus location
Exits neck under clavicle around coracoid process of scapula; Enters into arm and ennervates muscles on arm
