What was Truman’s domestic focus during his administration in the Cold War era?
One of an increase in civil rights; he wanted to give civil rights to African Americans, Japanese Americans, Native Americans etc. (all these people who had helped us in war) but congress wasn’t there yet because of nationalism that comes after war. So Truman uses what executive power he had to pass what he could

- Ordered the integration and desegregation of armed forces in 1948
- Made it illegal to discriminate for those applying for civil service jobs in 1948

What did the Eisenhower Administration do for the US economy during the Cold War?
Did a lot to buoy American prosperity and economy, there was zero inflation during his administration, kept national debt low and refused to cut taxes until budget was balanced (which was quite strange for a Republican), eventually taxes were cut and this aided in prosperity of 50’s.

was inspired by how German roads assisted in trade and movement of people in WWII when he was a commanding officer.
What federal policy was put in place towards Native Americans in Eisenhower’s administration?
A termination of Native American reservations, a liquidation of reservations and end of federal support, in an attempt to assimilate Native Americans into society.
Why did Eisenhower believe that the termination of reservations was good for natives?
Belief that Natives would be better if they assimilated into American society, was meant to give them full citizenship and reduce their dependence on bureaucracy (that often didn’t work in their favor)
What were the effects of Eisenhower’s domestic policy on Native Americans?
Native Americans become subject to state and US taxes which they had been previously exempt from, hurt the economy of a lot of native americans
What was the Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka?
A supreme court case in 1954 that desegregated schools
What was Eisenhower’s opinion on desegregation?
Eisenhower was not for it; he wanted a gradual desegregation that included southern support, felt this would be longer lasting

Eisenhower forced to send troops to Little Rock, Arkansas to protect black students in the desegregation efforts
