- set up a mock prison/guard/prisoners
- selected 24 male uni students who were emotionally stable
- treated as prisoners for de-individuation
- guards told they have complete power

- second day, there was a rebellionguards used a ‘divide and rule’ and fire extinguishers
- guards harassed, became a threat to health
- one broke down and was replaced with one that went off on a hunger strike
: prisoners turned on him so they dont suffer the consequences - study stopped after 6 days, not 14, because of phychological disturbance

A
- the more the guards identified with role, the more brutal they became
- all conformed, even if it went against their beliefs
- demonstrated social roles from media and social power
