Q

Research Support

A

Change to a minority position involves a deep processing of ideas
Martin et al
- gave participants a message that support a particular view and measure support
- one group heard minority agree with 1st idea VS others hear from majority
- part. showed conflicting views and measure attitude
People less willing to change views if they listened to minority
- their messages were more deeply processed and have a longer enduring effect
- support central argument on how minority influence process works

Q

Ecological Validity

A

studies usually have a clear distinction between minority and majority+ doing this in a controlled way is a strength- real life is more complicated (more differences than size)
: majority have more power and status
Minority are more commited as they have faces hostility
+ close group, so they have support

Q

Artificial

A

tasks are artificial (like Asch)
-research is removed from how minority try to change majority
Jury decisions and political campaigning
- the results are more important
Findings in studies lack external validity and are limited in what they explain about minority in real life
