Zhou 3-14 Flashcards
What are the main differences between eukaryotic translation and prokaryotic translation?
prokaryotes may couple the two processes- directly translate the mRNA after it is synthesized, while eukaryotic mRNA must undergo processing to get into the cytoplasm to be translated
Rho
6 component RNA binding protein (containing RNA) ring, after transcribing stops, Rho uses ATPase activity to separate ssRNA from elongation complex
How can prokaryotes terminate transcription independent of Rho
by using the stem-loop structure (palindromic) of the newly synthesized RNA and weak AU pairing at the end of the transcript while bound to the DNA
Which processes are coupled by eukaryotic RNAPol activity?
elongation, termination, and RNA processing
3 steps of 5’RNA processing
1) remove alpha Phosphorous of 5’ triphosphate 2) add GMP 3) add methyl group - THe cap gets recognized by a cap-binding protein before translation can occur
CPSF
cleavage and polyadenylation specificity factor
CstF
cleavage stimulation factor
PAP
Poly-A Polymerase
