Detention and training orders - application to youths:

10-11 y/os - DTOs cannot be made
12-14 y/os - DTOs can only be made if the youth is a persistent offender
15-17 - DTOs can be made

What is a youth rehabilitation order?
A
A single generic community sentence, including one or more ‘youth rehabilitation requirements’:
-curfew requirements
-activity requirements
-supervision requirement
-unpaid work requirement - completing up to 240 hours of unpaid work over a max. of 12 months
-programmes
-exclusion from a specified area

Q
For how long may a YRO be imposed?
A
The max. length for a YRO is 3 years but it can be extended for up to 6 months for the completion of all the requirements.
