  • suri tribe: initiation is boys becoming ‘rora; which included acts of violence, insults from elders and being whipped.
  • dassanech: girls from the ages of 10-12 are circumcised by the elder females.They can marry after this
  • debutantes: in england upper class girls went to a ‘coming out ball’ where they are introduced to higher society
  • bar mitzvah: jewish boys/girls attend classes to learn about their religious heritage and their future roles as mother/father. When they are 12/13 they have to show they have enough knowledge to take on their religious responsibility
