What is Ganesh God of?
Ganesh is god of obstacles, wisdom and intelligence
What does Ganesh represent?
He represents the doorkeeper of the universe
How did Ganesh get his elephant head?
Parvati was bathing, created a guard out of her dirt to stop anyone entering which was Ganesh. Shiva (her husband) tried to enter but Ganesh stopped him and shiva cut off his head. Parvati ordered it to be replaced with the first animal which was next found and it resulted in being an elephant so Ganesh got an elephant head.
What is Puja?
The worship of a god/goddess
What happens during puja at home?
It’s based around the 5 senses: murtis in a shrine, bathe idols in parchamrit (sweet concoction), candles, bells rung to invite the gods, turmeric and kum kum powder on forehead and murtis, arti lamp (put hand over), slower offerings, food, chanting and singing.
Why does puja involve the five senses?
Because of the idea being that the whole person is completely taken up in worship
