What is the Seder Meal?
The Passover Seder plate is a special plate containing symbolic foods eaten or displayed at the Passover Seder. The purpose of the Passover Seder plate is to show all the foods that perpetuate and emphasize the ideas of the people of Israel, and are designed to express the uniqueness of the Seder.
What does Matzvah represent?
It has no yeast so it doesn’t rise. This shows the speed which they fled Egypt.
Roasted egg representation:
New life after the challenges of slavery, symbolic of sacrifice.
Parsley representation:
Fresh start after slavery
Salt water representation:
Tears of slaves
Lamb bone representation
Symbolic of the lamb sacrificed at Passover
Charoset symbolism:
Symbolises mortar in bricks made by slaves (mix of spices and fruit).
Bitter herbs symbolism:
Bitterness of slavery
Wine symbolism:
To celebrate freedom, but also to point to hope for reuniting in Israel to come.
Haggadah symbolism:
The story of the journey of Passover- to re-live through generations.
