What is a compound ?
It’s when two or more elements whose atoms are chemically combined in a fixed position.
What are compounds names based on ?
The elements within them.
What does the suffix -ide mean ?
Two elements are present, in the name of the second element in the name is change to end in ‘ide’
What does the suffix -ate mean?
If the compound contains a metal and any other element and oxygen, the name of the second element is changed to end in -ate.
What is the difference between copper and copper oxide?
Copper is a shiny red brown solid and copper oxide is a black or red powder.
What’s the difference between silicon and silicon dioxide?
Silicon is blue silver in Chinese and silicon dioxide is a white powder.
What’s the difference between copper and copper sulphate?
Copper is bronze and shiny and copper sulphate is a blue powder.
What’s the difference between iron and iron sulphide?
I am is a shiny grey solid and iron sulphide is a brown block of solid.
What’s the difference between copper and copper carbonate?
Copper is a shiny, Ron, solid and copper carbonate is a green powder.
