Year 8 Chemistry - Reactions Flashcards
What is combustion?
Combustions the process where fuel burns in the presence of oxygen to produce heat or light.
What is energy tranfersfers are involved in combustion?
Chemicals to heat energy, heat to light energy
What is thermal decomposition?
Thermal decomposition is a single compound breaking down into simpler compound or elements
If you heat Lead carbonate what is the product?
LEAD OXIDE + LEAD DIOXIDE
If you heat copper carbonate what is the product?
COPPER OXIDE + COPPER DIOXIDE
If you heat Zinc carbonate what is the product?
ZINC OXIDE + ZINC DIOXIDE
What happens to atoms and particles in chemical reactions?
The particles rearrange and the number of atoms is conserved.
Bond breaking is what?
Endothermic
Bond making is what?
Exothermic
Find the number of mole in 29 grams of water?(H20) RAM of Oxygen=16, RAM of hydrogen=1
1.61 MOLES
Name some exothermic changes?
chemical reactions (combustion), freezing and condensing
What is the formula to figure out moles?
number of moles = mass (g) over relative formula mass
What is an exothermic change
exothermic change releases heat/energy into the surroundings
What is an endothermic change?
endothermic change absorbs energy from the surroundings
Name some endothermic changes?
Melting & boiling, some chemical reactions
