Name 5 different fancy yarns and describe what they are.
- Slub - single or folded yarns having or thick places regularly or irregularly.
- Knop - folded yarns containing short, often coloured bunches of fibres or yarn at regular or irregular intervals.
- Bouclé - specialised folding process which result in looped yarns.
- Chenille - cut pile yarn soft and voluminous.
- Jaspé - two or more yarns made from different colours twisted together.
- Mixture - yarn made by mixing fibres of different colours during spinning.
What is textured yarns?
Yarns which are permanently bulky by various process.
Name 2 different textured yarns.
- False-twisting texturing
- Air-jet texturing
- Stuffer-box texturing
- Knit-deknit texturing
What is False-twisting texturing method?
Heated and twisted then cooled and untwisted.
What is Air-jet texturing method?
Yarn is fed through a turbulent air stream causing entangled loops to be formed.
What is knit-reknit texturing method?
The yarn is knitted int a tube on a circular knitting machine. Its then heat set and unravelled this creates a crinkled yarn.

Many sides to the cross section which makes it more likely to reflect surfaces which give lustre.
What type of cross section does Silk have?
A triangular shaped cross section which gives silk the lustre and softness.
