Quick Flashcards
Benefits of texturing
Synthetic fibres are smooth they lack texture and are poor insulators. Texturing can make them more interesting and become better insulators.
Describe two fancy yarns and the effect each fancy yarn has on fabrics made from them.
Boucle this is a fibre with loops on. It gives fabric texture and gives it a grainy bumpy feel.
Chenille this is a soft fuzzy yarn which is made by a fabric being cut into strips. Fabrics made out of this are soft and bulky.
Yarns which contain elastic are usually core spun. Why do they need to be core spun. Explain core spun method.
They are exceedingly stretchy
They are thin so need another fibre with it
Can’t be cut into staple form just have to be continuous.
Spirally spun over it two layers different direction.
Two ways smooth filaments can be made into textured yarns
Air-jet texturing - continuous filament being air jetted caused tangles and small loops.
