What is Pile weave?
Woven weave with an extra layer of weft yarn, this weft yarn forms loops of the surface of the fabric which can be left or cut. It has a raised surface effect.
What is Double cloth/double weave?
It is a type of woven fabric where two ore more set of warp yarns are interconnected to form a two layered cloth. The fabric usually looks different on each side.
What is the difference between Satin and Sateen weave?
Satin weave is WARP faced meaning there is more warp visible on the front of the fabric.
Sateen weave is WEFT face meaning there is more weft visible on the front of the fabric.
What is a Brocade weave?
Brocade weave is like a jacquard weave which is usually patterned coloured silk with gold or silver in.
What is a Pique weave?
Its a tightly woven fabric which looks like raised parallel cords or fine ribbing. Its usually used with cotton for polo shirts and its a honeycomb structure.
What is Twill weave?
Twill weave creates diagonal lines on the cloth and has many different variations.
What is Satin weave?
This is a fabric with a diagonal construction. The weft yarns are almost completely hidden by warp yarns which from over them. The floats snag easily. it creates a smooth and luxurious appearance.
What is Plain weave?
This is the simplest and cheapest construction with both sides the same. The yarns go one over one under. Its perfect for a printing base.
What is Weft knit?
This is the most basic type of knit and can be done by machine or hand.
What is Warp knit?
This is more of a complicated knit which is interlaced sideways.
