Faith healing and placebo treatment are mediated through Hope and conviction. Deepens client engagement.
Instillation of Hope
Members of a homogenous group can improve self-esteem from feeling that they have firsthand experience. Being in the group can feel that they belong.
Universality
Didactic instruction on mental health, mental illness, trauma, and medical information
Imparting information
Gain through giving. Feeling useful to others builds one self-esteem.
Altruism
Group Therapy resembles the family as there are authorities/parental groups peers/sibling figure, deep, intimate revelations, strong emotions
The corrective recapitulation of the primary family group
Increases development of basic social skills. Goal directed groups can help members understand basic skills.
Development of socializing techniques
Members model behavior, such as self disclosure, support, and compassionate feedback.
Imitative behavior
Occurs in an interpersonal situation when one person relates to another not on the basic of realistic attributes of the other but on the basis of personification existing in their own world

A specific form of interpersonal perceptual distortions

Sighting inward. When one discovers something important about oneself

The group therapist has three basic task
