Y9 - Scientific Keywords Flashcards
Accuracy
How close a result comes to the true value.
High accuracy = Bullseye
Low accuracy = Doesn’t hit the target
Precision
How consistently can you come to the same result
High precision = All shots hit bullseye
Low precision = One shot ends up in each continent, somehow
Fair Test
Are the results of your test unaffected by any variables outside of the one being tested
Fair test = Every time the result is tested it is done in the exact same conditions as the previous test
Unfair Test = Every test you chose a random country with a random wind speed with a 2% chance that the test must be done during and earthquake or in the middle of the closest sea if the country does not get earthquakes
Repeatability
Can the same person get the same or similar results under the same conditions
Repeatable = All 1,000,000,000 tests got the exact same answer when I did it
Not Repeatable = When I did the test 1,000,000,000 times every time it was between 368m-5679m off of the last result
Reproducibility
Another person gets the same or similar results under the same conditions
Reproducible = The entirety of Earth’s population
Validity
Does your evidence actually answer your question
Valid = I wanted to know the difference in gravity from the Earth to the Moon so I tested 100 objects falling speed from the same height on both celestial bodies Invalid = I wanted to know the difference in gravity from the Earth to the Moon so I decided to work at Subway
