Y9 Chem T1- Rates Of Reaction Flashcards
What does rate mean?
Rate means measurement in time
Name a slow reaction
Rusting
Name a fast reaction
The squeaky pop test
What is between the core and the crust?
The mantle
What does a catalyst do?
Speeds up the reaction
Name a catalyst
Sodium
What is the equation for rate (product)
Rate=amount of product formed / time
What is the equation for rate (reactant)?
Amount of reactant used / time
What does a gas syringe do?
Measures the volume of gas produced
What does the balance do?
It measures the change in mass during the reaction
What does the displacement of water measure?
The volume of a gas produced
reactions speed up- temperature explain
temperature rises which makes the particles move faster, which means there are more collisions which means there are more chance of successful collisions
reactions speed up- temperature explain
temperature rises which makes the particles move faster, which means there are more collisions which means there are more chance of successful collisions
Concentration/pressure
More pressure in a unit means more particles per unit volume which means more collisions are frequent which increases the rate of reaction
Surface area
If there is more surface area like on a powder, then it will be the best option because more of the surface would hit the acid
Catalysts
They speed up the rate of reaction by providing a different pathway which requires less energy
What is activation energy?
ithe minimum amount of energy that particles must have in order to react.
What is a dependent variable?
What do you measure?
What is an independent variable?
Something you change
What is a control variable?
Things that stay the same
What state of matter can be turned into a powder?
Solid
What is concentration?
How many grams of solute are dissolved into 1dm3 of a solution?
What does 1dm3 mean?
1dm3 - 1 decimetre cubed equals 100 cm³
What is the equation for concentration?
Concentration (grams/dm3) = mass(g) / volume(dm3
