A

Encouragement to hate the Germans
Woman guilt tripping them with a white feather to show you are coward
Encouraging to make men sign up with friends (Pals Battalion)
Making it seem exciting to fight for their country

What new weaponry was made in WW1

A

Tanks - often broke down
Machine Guns - needed two people to operate m fire 600 bullets a minute
Heavy Artillery- bombardment to enemy trenches, could make men’s ears bleed from noise
Planes - quite unsafe at the beginning of the war but gathered valuable information about the opposing trench

Pros-
• bullet proof
• scared Germans
• safely carry men across no man’s land
Cons-
• often broke down
• only moved at 6km
• could get stuck on uneven ground
• never tested

What is poison gas?

A

This is new equipment first used in WW1, one type of gas was called mustard gas, a yellow and lethal gas that could cause blindness, eye burns and permanent eye damage.
However chlorine gas was used to suffocate the lungs, which is why gas masks were later invented.

What is shell-shock?

A

Shell shock was a term coined during the First World War that is now called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It is a psychological condition resulting from the stress a soldier experiences during battle. Symptoms include (but are not limited to) tremors, loss of sight or hearing and extreme fatigue. This is usually caused by constant bombing and gun fire
