What does appeasement mean?
a policy followed by Britain and France to try and solve
problems by negotiation and compromise. The aim was to avoid war.
Who were the League of Nations?
an organisation set up after the First
World War to try and avoid wars.
What did hitler do first ?
Hitler came to power in 1933 he began to rebuild Germany’s army. The League of Nations did nothing to stop this
Who did Hitler invade first?
Hitler’s army marched into the Rhineland
What country did hitler demand the Sudetenland from?
Czechoslovakia

What was the Battle of The Atlantic?
This took place between submarines, warships and planes at sea. The Germans bored the supply ships to draw British plans into battle
What was the Dunkirk Evacuation?
The British had to evacuate their troops across the Channel, every floating vessel was called to help evacuate all the soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk
What was the Battle of Britain?
During the summer of 1940, Hitler tried to invade Britain by air using his ‘Luftwaffe’ (air force) in the Battle of Britain.
The USSR joined allies with France and Britain what happened?
In June 1941, the Germans invaded the USSR. The USSR joined the allies. The Germans soon found themselves fighting a fierce Russian resistance in extremely cold conditions that they were not used to.
