What is militarism?
Building up armed forces, getting ready for war.
What is an alliance?
Agreements or promises to help defend another country
What is imperialism?
Trying to build up an empire
What is Nationalism?
Having pride in your country and be willing to defend it.
Who was the black hand?
The black hand was a Serbian terrorist group who murdered Franz Ferdinand and his wife. This event is known as the spark for ww1
What was the Schlieffen plan?
A German plan to attack France first and get rid of them while Russia was busy getting ready for war. After defeating France they would easily defeat Russia and win.
Why was the war fought in trenches
Because both armies went into defensive positions and technology had advanced since the last major war. You couldn’t just battle get a wound and run usually a would kill you.
Name some of the food soldiers had to eat in the trenches
Corned beef, hard-tac biscuits
What are the dangers of the trench
The disease, rats, not getting shot.
What routines are there in the trenches?
Morning hate and stand to
What is morning hate?
Deter the enemy by firing shells and machine guns at them.
What is stand to?
The order to stand on the fire step
What is mustard gas?
It is a gas the Germans used. It would sting like hell
How did the war come to an end?
The Germans had to surrender because they were running out of supplies and couldn’t keep up with the fresh American troops the allies had.
