Wrist & Hand Bones Flashcards
What are the carpal bones?
Proximal row (lateral to medial): Scaphoid Lunate Triquetrum Pisiform
Distal row (lateral to medial): Trapezium Trapezoid Capitate Hamate and hook of the hamate
Which carpal bones articulate with the radius to form the radioulnar joint?
The three lateral and proximal carpals (scaphoid, lunate and triquetrum) articulate with the distal end of the radius and the articular disc of the radius to form the radioulnar joint
the pisiform is on an anterior plane tot he other proximal carpal bones and articulates only with the triquetrum
Which are the more mobile and which are the more rigid carpals?
The proximal row is more mobile, and the distal row is more tightly ligamentously bound and more rigid
What is the joint between the carpals and the metacarpals?
the carpometacarpal joint
What is the structure of the metacarpal bones?
Base articulates with carpal bones
Head articulates with phalanges
What is the structure of the phalanges?
Base at proximal end
Head at distal end
What are the joints between the phalanges called?
interphalangeal joints (proximal, middle and distal)
