Muscles (Posterior Brachium) Flashcards
What are the muscles of the posterior brachium?
There are 2 muscles in the posterior brachium - the triceps brachii and the anconeus
Practice an oral presentation of the triceps brachii
Location: located in the posterior compartment of the brachium
Structure:
a three headed muscle (long head, lateral head, and humeral head)
Function:
extension of the forearm
Anatomy:
PA:
long head: infraglenoid tubercle of the scapula.
lateral head: posterior surface of the humerus (superior to the radial groove). medial head: posterior surface of the humerus (inferior to the radial groove, and deep to the lateral head)
DA: olecranon process of the ulna and fascia of the forearm
NS: radial nerve (C6-8)
Practice an oral presentation of the anconeus
Location: part of the posterior brachium compartment, spans a very small distance from the lateral distal arm to the lateral olecranon
Structure: very small triangular shaped muscle
Function: assists the triceps in extension of the elbow / forearm, and stabilizes elbow joint
Anatomy:
PA: lateral epicondyle of the humerus
DA: lateral surface of the olecranon process of the ulna
NS: radial nerve (C7-T1)
