Worshop 2 Flashcards
How is TPR typically regulated?
Via constriction and dilation of arterioles.
What is cardiac output?
Stroke volume x Heart rate
What portion of the blood is held in the veins?
60% of blood is held in the big veins.
How can pressure be increased quickly after a big loss of blood.
Pressure can be increased by constricting veins. The sympathetic nervous system does this.
What factors influence pulse pressure?
Stroke volume
Compliance
Reflected waves
What happens during age to the heart that sets it up to become more inefficient?
systole is higher than it should be due to the reflected wave putting a force backwards on the aortic valve.
With age the requirement for blood is higher and so the fact that there is a decrease in reflected blood pressure into the heart makes it more likely to experience an infarction.
