What are some possible causes of cardiac hypertrophy?
Increase mechanical demands caused by higher blood pressure. (systemic)
Response to hormonal influence (trophic)
Hypertrophy in general population with no CVD is a major independent risk factor at times.
Why don’t hearts normally hypertrophy?
Cardiomyocytes exit cell cycle at birth. Same cells in the adult heart as right after birth. Adult heart is due to growth of individual cardiomyocytes.
What are some genes associated with high BP?
SHR gene is linked to high blood pressure which causes big heart to appear.
What are some failure outcomes that appeared in Hypertrophic Hearted Rats?
Concentric hypertrophy (smaller lumen and bigger walls)
Increased growth molecular markers.
No fibrosis (even after broken down with enzymes)
What happens to a hypertrophic heart that makes failure a possibility?
heart can push well, it just can’t relax well this results in inefficient blood flow to ventricles.
What can be said about calcium signalling in HHR hearts?
Calcium signals in HHR hearts is bigger.
What happened to HHR rats as a result of heart attacks?
less HHR rats survived heart attacks compared to NHR.
What is a possible cellular cause of hypertrophy?
Hypertrophy originates from growth suppression heart cells.
