How does climate cause people to be poor?
92% of Africa doesn’t have a sufficient amount of rainfall to grow crops which causes a shortage of food.
There are also no facilities to catch rain water.
How does location cause people to be poor?
Some countries such as Sudan have little resources so must buy from other countries which can be expensive.
Explain population growth in poor countries.
People have more children as there is a risk of them dying young so the more they have, the greater chance there is for them to have people to look after them when they are old.
Explain the economic reasons that people are poor.
World trade is not fair so producers are exploited.
The farmers grow crops for the rest of the world and not necessarily for people in that country.
The loans taken out by LEDCs have high interest rates which cripple the country.
What are the politics like in LEDCs?
Some countries are politically unstable.
The civil war in Dafur in Sudan has lasted for 25 years, killing 200,00 people and caused 2 million people to flee their homes.
How does corruption affect poor people?
The governments keep all the money for themselves and doesn’t allow it to benefit the poorer people.
What is the result of natural disasters for LEDcs and MEDCs?
MEDCs (such as Japan) have the money and resources to deal with disasters whereas LEDCs do not have the money or resources to deal with them.
