Near Death Experience
Some people, when they are close to death claim to have a sense of leaving their bodies and seeing what exists beyond this life.
What does Plato believe about dualism?
He argued that the human body is constantly changing and decaying however the soul stays the same. He believed that when a person died, their soul went on to live a perfect life (heaven).
What does Dawkins believe about the afterlife?
The body has no soul and instead is just different cells and DNA. Therefore, when we die, our cells die and nothing is left.
What is the problem with Dawkins’ idea of materialism?
People believe that we must be made of something else otherwise things like love are just a chemical reaction.
What is the most popular example of resurrection and what does it teach Christians?
Jesus rising from the dead. It teaches Christians that if they live a good life, they will be resurrected to heaven, however, if they live a bad life, they will be resurrected to hell.
What is the problem with resurrection?
The body decays when it dies and the only proof of it ever happening is in the Bible which may be biased.
What is the process of life - death - reincarnation called?
Samsara.
How does the process of Samara work?
If you have led a good life, you gain good karma and come back to life as a better being. It can be escaped after a soul gains enough good karma and reaches the top of the karmic ladder and becomes one with Brahman. (Moksha)
