Spain
Columbus sailed from Spain. Early 1500s Spanish conquered went to the Americas in search of gold. Hernán Cortés conquered the Aztecs. Within ten years, Spain controlled all of current day Mexico and Central America. They also conquered the Incan. They enslaved most conquered people.
Laissez faire
No government interfering with trade.
Portugal
Henry the navigator was the prince. He created the school for navigation, map makers, and shipbuilders. He sponsored voyages. This led to the caravel. They set up trading posts along the coast of Africa.
How did the scientific revolution affect the enlightenment
People began to look at things with logic and reason in mind so they wanted to know things on a factual base, not religious
Europe’s affect on the Americas
About 20 million native Americans died from diseases brought by the Europeans. They converted people to new religions. They put them into slavery. They took their land and nature.
Triangular trade
The exchange of goods and slaves across the Atlantic Ocean between the Americas, Europe, and Africa.
Colombian exchange
The movement of plants, animals, and other living things between the eastern and western hemispheres after Columbus’s voyages
The Americas after being conquered
20,000,000 native Americans were killed by diseases. Empires were conquered and destroyed. Land was no longer respected, but used for gain. Many people were enslaved. Many people traveled to the Americas to look for fortunes.
Enlightenment
18th century philosophical movement in which philosophers used reason to understand truths about human nature.

German theologian, born in 1483, who was a leader of the reformation and taught salvation through faith in God
Heliocentric
Having the sun at the center of the center of the universe
