What is the purpose of a violence risk assessment?
To provide information that aids in appropriate allocation of resources to minimize harm. Violence risk assessments helps differentiate between individuals who pose a threat and those who solely make threats.
What four issues must a company contend with when developing a violence management program?
1) Limited law enforcement resources to respond to potential violence in the workplace.
2) Limited, but growing legal experience in workplace violence
3) Limited number of defensible experts in psychologies and behaviors associated with violence.

The team should include:
a senior management representative.
a senior human resources manager,
a senior security manager.
a legal rep.
What is are the function of the IMT
1) Take reports of workplace aggression, stalking, or potential violence from managers, supervisors, employees, and other parties.
2) Assess those reports
3) Gather further information as necessary
4) Intervene as appropriate
What is “notification” in terms of workplace violence
Notification is when a employee discovers/receives word of or the possibility of workplace violence and must inform the IMT.
What are nine options for Interventions/Non-emergency situations?
1) Interviews
2) Knock and talks
3) Administrative or disciplinary actions, including fitness of duty evaluations.
4) Cease and desist requests.
5) No trespass orders
6) Restraining or protective orders
7) Voluntary or involuntary mental health evaluations
8) Criminal case filing and prosecution.
9) Probation and parole with close monitoring.
What is monitoring related to workplace violence?
Monitoring refers to the process of observing the behavior of employees to create a behavioral feedback loop that allows the violence risk assessment to be updated. There may be a specific employee being monitored or monitoring employees in general.
What is the point of a review and debriefing after an incident?
They are to glean lessons learned and allow for continuous improvement.
