16
Q

Explain the purpose of a Work Positioning System (WPS)?

A

With the work positioning lanyard wrapped around the workplace structure and both ends attached to the safety harness a worker can lean back so that the body weight is supported by the feet and lanyard, leaving the hands free.

17
Q

Explain when a WPS can be used as a FAS?

A

A WPS is NOT a Fall Arrest System and must not be used as such.

18
Q

Explain the purpose of a Rescue System?

A

Rescue systems are for emergency use only

19
Q

State an example of a FAS?

A

Y- Lanyard, ASAP with a shock absorber and Dynamic rope.

20
Q

State an example of a WPS?

A

Pole Strap/Work positioning lanyard.

21
Q

State an example of a WRS?

A

Restraint lanyard

22
Q

What is the purpose of having an Energy Absorber integrated within a FAS?

A

Limits the dynamic impact force imposed upon the body.

23
Q

What is the purpose of a Full Body Harness?

A

To provide a means of attachment for fall arrest devices and work positioning equipment, enabling a person to work at height safely.

24
Q

State what pre-use and after-use checks would be conducted on a Full Body Harness?

A

Visual Checks on the following should be carried out Pre and After use,

  • Seamless Webbing
  • Tool Connector Buckles
  • Work Positioning Rings
  • Front Attachment Point (Chest)
  • Dorsal Attachment Point (Rear)
  • Padded Waist Belt
  • Adjustable Leg Loops
  • Strap Keepers
25
Q

State the purpose of a Pole Strap?

A

To provide a means of attachment to a structure enabling a person to work hands free.

26
Q

State the purpose of a Double-Legged Lanyard?

A

Provides a flexible connection between the worker and the structure.

27
Q

State the purpose of a Railok System?

A

Used in conjunction with a permanently installed vertical rail, it acts as a flexible connection between the worker and the rail.

28
Q

In the absence of a fixed fall arrest system, what item of fall arrest kit could be installed?

A

Vertical Safety Line (VSL); Used in conjunction with the ASAP device.

29
Q

What items of PPE should be worn during Working at Height tasks?

A

30
Q

What is the purpose of an attachment sling?

A

The sole purpose of an attachment sling is to provide a direct means of connection between the fall protection system and the work place structure. It is not to be used in conjunction with other fall arrest equipment for lengthening purposes.

31
Q

What three checks are Safety Helmets subjected to?

A

A safety helmet is to be inspected;

  • Pre-Use
  • After Use
  • Monthly
32
Q

Explain how Working at Height PPE should be stored?

A

W@HPPE must be stored in a

  • Cool, dry, well-ventilated place,
  • Away from;
Direct heat,
sunlight,
corrosive fumes,
chemical substances
undue vibration.
sharp implements

And to be stored in such a way as to avoid unnecessary strain or pressure.

Rope grabs are to be removed from lifelines and the lifeline coiled without twists and kinks before being placed onto a rack.

Where possible, components such as lanyards and harnesses (from the rear attachment link) are to be stored by hanging.

33
Q

State which Joint Service Publication provides guidance on Working at Height PPE?
