Primary Care Facility
Provides “long-term care” to patients with chronic conditions requiring ongoing health and nursing care due to impairment and a reduced degree of independence in ADLs, and patients in need of rehabilitation
Custodial Care Facility
For the “examination of the human body”, specimens from the human body for the diagnosis, sometimes treatment of disease, or water for drinking water analysis
Diagnostic/therapeutic facility
Performs “highly specialized procedures” on an outpatient basis
Specialized Outpatient Facility
Describe LEVEL 1 HOSPITAL
- Most basic
- Cater to patients who need “minor” care and supervision
- Must include: operating room, post-operative room, maternity facilities, isolation facilities, dantal clinic, pharmacy, etc.
Describe LEVEL 2 HOSPITAL
- Need for a referral
- Contains all facilities of Level 1
- Additional facilities: ICU, NICU, HRPU
- Respiratory therapy services
- Clinical laboratory
Describe LEVEL 3 HOSPITAL
- Teaching or training hospital
- Contains all facilities of LEVEL 2
- Ambulatory Surgical Clinic, Blood bank, Dialysis, Clinical Laboratory
Treatment of patients suffering from diseases of a particular organ or group of organs
SPECIALTY HOSPITAL (Philippine Heart Center, Lung Center of the Philippine, and National Kidney & Transplant Institute)

Referral
Ensures the continuity and complementation of health and medical services
Functional Referral System
Movement of a patient from the health center of first contact and the hospital at first referral level.
Two- way referral system
Occur within the health facility, from one health personnel to another
Internal Referral
Movement of a patient from one health facility to another
External Referral
2 types of External Referral
1) Vertical – patient referral may be from a lower to a higher level of health facility or other way round
2) Horizontal – patient is referred between similar facilities indifferent catchment areas
