ANAPHY: Cardiovascular System Flashcards
double-layered closed sac that surrounds the heart anchors it
PERICARDIUM/PERICARDIAL SAC
facilitate the contraction and relaxation of the heart walls
MYOCARDIUM
tiny tip and helps pump or “wing out” blood from the ventricles to the rest of the body or lungs
APEX
regulate the right and left ventricles of the heart and allowing them to pump blood upward
APEX
receives blood low in oxygen from the body and then empties the blood into the right ventricle
RIGHT ATRIUM
receives blood full of oxygen from the lungs and then empties it into the left ventricle
LEFT ATRIUM
pumps the oxygen-rich blood to the body through a large network of arteries
LEFT VENTRICLE
pumps blood low in oxygen to the lungs
RIGHT VENTRICLE
supplies blood to the heart muscle
CORONARY ARTERY
carries blood from your heart to your lungs
PULMONARY ARTERY
- the largest blood vessel in the body
- carries blood “away” from your heart to the rest of your body
AORTA
transfer oxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart
PULMONARY VEINS
carries blood from the legs, feet, and orgas in the lower region
INFERIOR VENA CAVA
carries blood from the head, neck, and other organs in the upper region
SUPERIOR VENA CAVA
allows blood flowings into the heart from the body to flow to the Right Ventricle where it’s pumped to the lungs for oxygen
TRICUSPID VALVE
prevents oxygenated and deoxygenated from mixing
SEPTUM
- determine the passage of blood between the ventricles and main arteries, transporting blood away from the heart to the vital organs
- prevents backflow during ventricular diastole
SEMILUNAR VALVES
- helps keep blood flowing in the right direction
- has three leaflets or cusps: left, right, non-cusps
AORTIC SEMILUNAR VALVE
prevents the oxygenated blood from flowing back into the left atrium
BICUSPID (MITRAL) VALVE
responsible for draining most if the deoxygenated blood leaving the myocardium
CORONARY SINUS
maintain the position and tension of the atrioventricular valves
CHORDAE TENDINAE
prevent leakage throuh AV valves during systole
PAPILLARY MUSCLES
extension of right atrium
