statement to express christian faith in its original form. proceeds from the father and the son
nominalism VS realism
disagreement in the philosophy of language about universal concepts like humanity.
- nominalism = just the name of the word (ex: human)
- realism = universal realities, shared characteristics (ex: humanism in addition to the individual)
numerical identity
the idea that you can share features and resemble other things, but you are never the same as something else. there’s only one of you.
passion
passion to christ himself. reference to Jesus entering Jerusalem, his trial and execution on the cross. involved the idea of suffering and receiving

contamination of the purity of your soul. (ex: sin)
prime matter
Aristotle’s metaphysics something that you never encounter or experience, but is implied. it shared a common nature prior to its determination, the reality of matter was never encountered.
principles of community, gradation, plenitude
connected to the great chain of being. every level should be full and there must be continuity from one level to the next, and every level is classified in value of power.
principle of sufficient reason
idea that nothing is without reason. it’s the purpose of explanation

transition to the afterlife, a place where all sins are taken away (purged/burned) on your way to heaven.

“whatness” or essence. ex: whatness of human is its humanity and human nature

better version of the material body. higher form of body that will not fall apart. humans are still a composite in the afterlife, a higher form of body

the essence of something. every being is a composite of matter and form, which is substantial form. it’s the form that shapes you in the kind of individual you are

text from the old testament, the prophecy of christ. the person who was forced to suffer by God. To suffer like God suffered for all humanity
summun bonum
“highest good”. the highest kind of life devoted to God.
teleology
“end”. explanation if things by their end or function that they serve. ex: motion of stars trying to achieve perfection (limitation of perfection of God)
theological virtues
faith, hope and charity. virtues that lead us to living in the right way in order to go to heaven. (added to justice, wisdom, temperance and courage)
transcendentals
one, being, unity, truth, goodness. everything in the universe will manifest these characteristics
universals
general reality or concept we would be referring to if it exist. ex: blue and blue are both blue. (plato and his forms of good)
voluntarism
thought that whatever is, depends on God’s will rather than God’s intellect. ex: killing is wrong because God decided that killing is wrong
