comes from greek word knowledge. idea that humans possess a divine spark or inner light that is trapped in the material body. of you understand it, it connects you to God

transformation of reality. predicts end of world. apocalyptic view.

necessity = certain things must be that way. based on reason.
contingency = things could have been different. depends on factors and conditions.
neo-platonism
from Plato’s teaching. “the one”. idea that 3 levels of realty that can reached. 1 (one) -> 2 (intellect) -> 3 (soul) -> goes back to one. wants to go back to the origin.
normative / descriptive
normative = how things should be (guided by norms, values…)
descriptive = how things are without judgment
omnipotent
characteristics of God. all powerful
omniscience
having unlimited knowledge. understanding all things (nature of God)
ontological argument
nothing is greater than God. god must exist in reality…
original sin
nature as descendant of Adam and Eve is corrupted as a result of what they did in the Garden of Eden. will is corrupted and reason is unreliable
ortodoxy
correct opinion.
