What do bulk forming laxatives do?
- absorb water and increase the volume, bulk and moisture of the stool.
What do Faecal softening agents do?
- facilitate mixture of water and fatty substances within stool
What do stimulant laxatives do?
Promote accumulation of water and increase peristalsis in the colon by irritating nerves in the mucosa
What do osmotic and saline laxatives do?
Exert osmotic effect to increase volume of fluid in the lumen.
